  10.        The Web Software Distribution Tool (WebDist) creates Web
  11.        pages from which users can install software over the
  12.        network.

  14.        The process involved in creating a Web Software Distribution
  15.        page consists of the following:

  17.           +o Providing an unprotected gggguuuueeeesssstttt account on the Web
  18.             Server host
  19.  
  20.           +o Creating a software distribution directory on the Web
  21.             Server.
  22.  
  23.           +o Exporting the software distribution directory to the
  24.             Web by creating a Web Software Distribution Page.

  26.        WebDist guides the user through the entire process, and
  27.        automatically generates the Web Software Distribution Page
  28.        where users can install the software products contained in
  29.        the software distribution directory.

  32.        NNNNooootttteeee::::  Creating the software distribution directory requires
  33.        rrrrooooooootttt access to the host, and the user is responsible for
  34.        moving the new page to the appropriate location in the
  35.        document directories.

  40.        The script ////uuuussssrrrr////eeeettttcccc////wwwweeeebbbbddddiiiisssstttt is responsible for generating
  41.        the HTML for the Web software distribution page.  Please
  42.        refer to the manual page webdist(1) for information on using
  43.        this utility.

  45.        NNNNooootttteeee::::  In previous releases of WebDist it was possible to
  46.        generate the Web software distribution page from a web form
  47.        (http://localhost/webdist.html) This feature was disabled
  48.        for security reasons in IRIX 6.5. The secure way to create a
  49.        distribution page is using the webdist(1) script.
